​The Hospital Authority today (September 29) announced information regarding patients who tested positive via admission screening or testing with patients or staff members identified as close contacts and nosocomial COVID-19 infection cases.

​In addition, two staff members in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Prince of Wales Hospital tested positive for COVID-19 on September 23. A hospital infection control team commenced a contact tracing investigation, and 16 more staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past three days. The staff concerned are currently on sick leave and are undergoing isolation in stable condition. The hospital has arranged all staff members and patients in the ICU to undergo COVID-19 tests. All staff were equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment at work. No patients are classified as close contacts. The service in the ICU is unaffected.

In addition, an 87-year-old female patient in an orthopaedics and traumatology ward of Caritas Medical Centre developed a fever and cough, and tested positive for COVID-19 on September 19. The hospital commenced a contact tracing investigation. Six more female patients, aged 49 to 94, and six staff members tested positive. The hospital is investigating the linkage among the cases concerned. Seven patients are being treated in isolation and are in stable condition.

In addition, a 90-year-old female patient in a medicine and geriatrics rehabilitation ward of Caritas Medical Centre tested positive for COVID-19 via pre-discharge testing on September 9. The hospital commenced a contact tracing investigation. Two more female patients, aged 84 and 92, also tested positive. The hospital is investigating the linkage among the cases concerned. Three patients are being treated in isolation. One patient is in serious condition due to her underlying medical illness while the other two patients are in stable condition. The hospital has arranged viral tests for the patients of the ward concerned and they have all tested negative so far. Environmental samples have been taken from the ward.

All four patients are being treated under isolation. One patient is in critical condition while the other three patients are in stable condition.
