Latest situations of COVID-19 (Jan 15, Sunday)

TOPLINE
- 7,749 new cases [1,410 cases by nucleic acid tests (17 imported + 1,393 locally acquired); 6,339 cases by rapid antigen tests (169 imported + 6,170 locally acquired)]
- As at Jan 14, 142, 291, 1,536, 9,925 and 1,012 persons received their first, second, third, fourth and fifth dose of vaccine respectively; a cumulative total of 20,550,846 doses have been administered
- The Government announced the decision to increase the prescribed daily one-way numbers of persons who can pass through the designated boundary control points (BCPs) from January 18 to 21. The total number of persons who can pass through the designated land BCPs will be increased from 50,000 to 65,000, whereas the number of persons who can pass through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (Zhuhai) (applicable to drivers and passengers of private cars and cross-boundary hire car services only) will be increased from 1,000 to 2,000.

Provisional analysis of the first 12,330 reported death cases in the 5th wave:
- Vaccination history
 - Received 4 doses (reached 14 days): 2%
 - Received 3 doses (reached 14 days): 12%
 - Received 2 doses (reached 14 days): 13%
 - Received 1 dose (reached 14 days): 13%
 - Unvaccinated: 60%
- Over 95% fatal cases were elderly aged 60 years or above; 48% were residential care home residents; 93% were with known chronic diseases
- Receiving 3 doses of any vaccines greatly reduces death risk especially in the older age group

COVID-19 Vaccination Programme statistics

- As at Jan 14:
* 142 persons received their first dose of vaccine; a cumulative total of 6,911,492 persons have received their first vaccine dose, making up 94.6% of the population aged 3 or above
* 291 persons received their second dose of vaccine; a cumulative total of 6,790,1291 persons have received their second vaccine dose, making up 93.1% of the population aged 3 or above
* 1,536 persons received their third dose of vaccine; a cumulative total of 5,821,899 persons have received their third vaccine dose, making up 83.5% of the population aged 12 or above
* 9,925 persons received their fourth dose of vaccine; a cumulative total of 982,951 persons have received their fourth vaccine dose
* 1,012 persons received their fifth dose of vaccine; a cumulative total of 43,213 persons have received their fifth vaccine dose
- a total of 20,550,846 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered for members of the public

Hospital Authority resumes some General Out-patient Clinic services

The Hospital Authority spokesman announced on January 14 that in response to the epidemic developments and service demand, 11 General Out-patient Clinics will resume some earlier suspended services, including the Saturday, Sunday, Public Holiday and evening clinic services from next Monday (January 16).

Upward adjustments to prescribed daily numbers of persons from January 18 to 21 under first-phase resumption of normal travel between Hong Kong and Mainland

The Government announced on January 14, after deliberation and co-ordination with the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Shenzhen Municipal Government, the decision to increase the prescribed daily one-way numbers of persons who can pass through the designated boundary control points (BCPs) from January 18 to 21 under the first-phase resumption of normal travel between Hong Kong and the Mainland. The total number of persons who can pass through the designated land BCPs will be increased from 50 000 to 65 000, whereas the number of persons who can pass through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (Zhuhai) (applicable to drivers and passengers of private cars and cross-boundary hire car services only) will be increased from 1 000 to 2 000. The upward adjustments seek to address people's keen demand for travelling between Hong Kong and the Mainland via these BCPs prior to the Chinese New Year……Across the board, we will press ahead with the resumption of normal travel between Hong Kong and the Mainland in a progressive, orderly and comprehensive manner. At the same time, we will maintain close liaison with the relevant Mainland authorities in monitoring and reviewing the overall implementation of the first phase. With the experience gained, we will make arrangements for any subsequent phase and announce details in due course.
